Jose Mourinho reveals Zlatan Ibrahimovic could still be offered Man United contract

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could still play for Manchester United next season.
The 35-year-old was Manchester United’s top scorer last term, grabbing 28 goals in all competitions before his season was brought to an abrupt end due a knee injury sustained in April.
Prior to the injury, it was rumoured Ibrahimovic was to extend his United deal a further 12 months, but the damage to his cruciate ligament was significant enough that it was thought he wouldn’t play for the club again.

It was revealed that the Swede would continue using United’s Carrington Training Complex for his rehabilitation, but the possibility of him running out at Old Trafford once again seemed doubtful.
However, news earlier this week suggested that the former Barcelona, Juventus, Inter, Milan and PSG striker was recovering at an impressive rate and could be back ahead of schedule.
The club are on their pre-season tour of America while the striker remains in England, but United boss Mourinho has since shed light on Ibrahimovic’s current situation.
“It’s possible. He is open. We wanted to be honest and open and give everything for him to make a decision, in case his desire was to leave.
“So there was not a new contract, there was a space and time to think, feel, decide and, from his point of view, he wants to play still at the highest level.
“He didn’t want to hide behind such an amazing injury. He was not happy with the way he finished the season, of course with his first European trophy, but not playing. So he wants to challenge himself and keep playing still at the highest level.
“Obviously we leave the door open for him to recover with us. Old Trafford, Carrington is open for him to recover and be one of us and, at the same time, let’s make a decision that will make us all happy.”

Jose Mourinho’s dad passes away

Once capped by Portugal, the former goalkeeper has passed away, with his son leading the tributes via an Instagram post
Felix Mourinho, father of Manchester United boss Jose, has passed away aged 79, former club Belenenses have confirmed.
He spent a lengthy playing career as a goalkeeper, even turning out once for Portugal, and thereafter he spent two decades in the dugout, during which time he would ask his son to compile the scouting reports that ultimately led to Jose being recognised as one of the world’s top coaches.

Mourinho responded to his father’s death by posting a picture of the two together on his Instagram account that went without comment.
The funeral is expected to take place in Setubal at 11:00 on Tuesday.

Jose Mourinho denies any wrongdoing in tax probe

Jose Mourinho has released a statement after Spanish prosecutors had filed a claim against Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on two counts of tax fraud dating back to when he coached Real Madrid.
Spanish prosecutors said on Tuesday that the Portuguese manager owes Spanish tax authorities 3.3 million euros (£2.9m), a Madrid prosecutor said in a statement, adding it had presented a claim to a local court.
Prosecutors said he had failed to declare revenues from his image rights in his Spanish income tax declarations from 2011 and 2012, “with the aim of obtaining illicit profits”.

However, Mourinho has now hit back at those claims in a statement from his representatives:

” Jose Mourinho has not received any notification with regards to the news published today. To this date, neither the Spanish tax authorities, nor the public prosecutor have contacted Jose Mourinho or his advisers who were hired for the inspection process.”

“Jose Mourinho, who lived in Spain from June 2010 until May 2013, paid more than 26 million euros in taxes, with an average tax rate over 41 per cent, and accepted the regularisation proposals made by the Spanish tax authorities in 2015 regarding the years of 2011 and 2012 and entered into a settlement agreement regarding 2013.
“The Spanish Government in turn, through the Tax Department, issued a certificate in which it attested that he had regularised his position and was in compliance with all his tax obligations.”
The claims against Mourinho come amid a lengthening list of tax fraud cases involving football players in Spain.
Real Madrid player Cristiano Ronaldo has been called to testify on July 31 in Madrid on allegations that he hid income from tax authorities between 2011 and 2014, the court said on Tuesday.

Spanish prosecutor files claim against Jose Mourinho for alleged tax fraud

The Economic Crime Section of the Madrid prosecutor’s office has filed a claim of tax fraud against Jose Mourinho.
The prosecutors allege that the current Manchester United manager defrauded the state over image rights in 2011 and 2012 during his time at Real Madrid.
In a statement, the prosecutor’s office said that Mourinho owes €3.3 million in tax, adding that they had submitted the claim with the local court.

Mourinho’s former player Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit with similar charges in recent weeks, leading to heavy speculation that he will leave Madrid. Ronaldo and Mourinho share an agent, Jorge Mendes.

Arsene Wenger ready ‘for peace’ with Jose Mourinho ahead of United clash

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he is ready “for peace” with Jose Mourinho as the two managers renew their long-standing rivalry this weekend.
Wenger and Mourinho have clashed for years and the feud even got physical once when Wenger pushed his counterpart during a game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho will visit Emirates Stadium on Sunday for the first time since taking over as Manchester United manager, and can expect a frosty reception from the home crowd.
But having seen his relationship with long-time United rival Sir Alex Ferguson turn more courteous toward the end, Wenger would not rule out the same happening with Mourinho.
“Look, I’m always open in life for everything, for peace,” Wenger told a news conference on Thursday. “I try to respect everybody, and I don’t want to make a case of any person. I think it’s important I focus on my team.”
This could be a golden opportunity for Wenger to finally get a first Premier League victory over Mourinho, who has indicated he may field a weakened team on Sunday because of the team’s Europa League semifinal and a number of injuries.
“I don’t know what Manchester United will do. We know anyway that they have a massive squad with quality players. Only a top-level performance will get us the win we want,” he said.
United and Arsenal both need a win to keep their top-four hopes alive, which means Wenger expects Mourinho to take a more attack-minded approach than he showed in the drab 0-0 draw against Manchester City recently.

“I believe they will certainly try to be defensively solid but they will try to win the game as well,” Wenger said. “For them it is like for us, both teams are in the position where they have to win the game to have a little chance to be in the top four.”
Arsenal are likely to be without midfielder Granit Xhaka, who still has a swollen ankle from last Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Tottenham. However, centre-back Shkodran Mustafi is back in full training and could give Arsenal’s defence a boost.
After that dispiriting loss to Spurs, a win over United would certainly help lift Arsenal’s spirits going into the final stretch of the season. But Wenger said their league situation simply means every game is now a must-win situation.
“Of course every big game boosts your confidence, but for us more than focusing on the fact it is Manchester United, a big club and a big rivalry over the years, what is important is to have the chance to achieve our target,” he said. “We have no choice, we have to beat them.”
